The fourth day of the World Cup has a lot to live up to following France’s thumping win over Australia and Argentina’s shock defeat to Saudi Arabia, but tournament heavyweights Germany and Spain are set for action.
In the first game of the day, Lionel Messi’s Argentina were stunned by Group C minnows Saudi Arabia, who rallied to secure a stunning victory.
Denmark and Poland were held to goalless draws by Tunisia and Mexico respectively before the current world champions France blitzed to a 4-1 win over Australia courtesy of a double for Olivier Giroud and an all-star display from Kylian Mbappe.
Two of the tournament favourites will enter the fray on the fourth day of action, with Germany set to face Japan and Spain playing Costa Rica this afternoon. Both will fancy their chances of going deep into a tournament that has been littered with shocks. Belgium’s ‘Golden Generation’ will also start their campaign today in a bid to finally recognize their undoubted potential against a Canada side competing at their first World Cup since 1956.
