All is set for the 2022 edition of the Olokun cultural festival holding in Lagos State from the 26th to the 27th of August. Olokun is one of the most popular traditional festivals celebrated in Yorubaland to unite the people around the world and promote the Yoruba culture. Here are six things we know about the Olokun festival.

  • Olokun festival showcases the culture, values, and heritage of the Yoruba people. The festival promotes tourism and cultural value chain to the world and makes the Yoruba culture rank high in the world, with potential promises.
  • The Convener of the 2022 Olokun Festival is Ambassador Yeye Lara Fashola, the cultural ambassador of the African Union Economic, Social and Cultural Council (ECOSOCC) and priestess of Olokun.
  • This year’s edition of the annual festival themed “The Role of African Culture in the Promotion and Development of Africans,” will focus on promoting African culture. The festival will also be used as a tool for economic empowerment.
  • Ambassadors and high commissioners from Africa and other countries like Brazil, Venezuela, Cuba, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Malaysia, France, China, America, Spain, and Britain will be a part of this year’s event.
