Lagos state to commence distribution of food packages to various homes

Governor of Lagos state,Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has announced the commencement of the implementation of a stimulus package that comprises delivering food items  to the doorsteps of millions of residents in the state.

The decision was taken in order to ease the harsh measures that have been put in place in the state in order to curtail the spread of coronavirus

 Lagos state so far as the most confirmed cases in the country with 44 cases as at Friday, 27th 2020.44 of Nigeria’s current 70 confirmed Covid-19 cases have been detected in Lagos.

Sanwo-Olu declared a partial lockdown of Lagos this week, affecting all non-essential shops – those not selling food, water or medicine so as to curtail the spread of the virus.

The governor has now announced plans to begin distribution of food supplies to homes as a way of easing the effect of the lockdown. “I am happy to announce an economic stimulus package to help our residents cushion the effects of our #StayAtHome directive to stop the spread of #COVID19.“This first stage is targeting 200,000 households at an estimation of 6 people per household. We hope to ramp it up quickly.

“The stimulus package will contain bags of rice, beans, garri, bread, dry pepper, drinking water and vitamins. We want each ration to last for 14 days as we continue to evaluate the impact of #COVID19.

“Please stay home with your loved ones. We want the best for you,” the governor tweeted. It is to be noted that President Muhammadu Buhari had on Thursday , 26th 2020 announced the disbursement of 10billion naira to Lagos state in a bid to support the efforts of the state in tackling the virus.
