Quite a bit has happened in the Nigerian entertainment, telco, and sports circles in the past week; from Erica of bbnaija behaving unruly and getting disqualified, to Aftobeats act, Davido releasing a song that seems like a full-blown diss track aimed at his fellow act, Burna Boy. Comedienne, Maraji, also broke down on her Instagram live as she recounted her breakup story. We’ve decided to do a rundown of the top 5 hottest gist that was in circulation from Last Sunday ( 6th September ) till date. So in case, you didn’t quite catch up with some of the excitement, here you go. Have a lovely read.

1)Bb9ja Erica gets disqualified from the house

Rules are rules and are meant to be followed, but it seems Erica didn’t quite catch the memo as she got a third strike to earn her disqualification spot. From the inception of Big Brother, the mode of disqualification has always been earning three strikes equating to your dismissal from the house, and Erica was the unlucky one to first catch the stray in this year’s edition of the show. The events that surrounded her the final straw for Erica was a quite tumultuous one. She earned her third and disqualifying strike on three count charges of goading, threatening a housemate, and interfering with the production process.

The whole thing started during their Saturday night party, where she was seen attempting  to interfere in the dance between her closest friend, Kiddwaya, and fellow housemate, Nengi. While it was perceived that she wasn’t cool with the duo dancing together, an argument ensued between the parties but was quickly quenched. The audience was brewing up for what was to come next between the trio after the party but to our surprise, what came in next left viewers shell shocked.

Events heated up and she started throwing jibes at her fellow housemate, Laycon. She moved from mere invective to threats on Laycon’s life outside the house amid pleas from housemates to sheath her sword. Laycon, on the other hand, refused to engage.Recall that Erica had earlier been taken aback by claims that she had tried to kiss fellow housemate, Laycon. While Laycon stood his ground on the claims that she had indeed tried to kiss him ” a couple of times’ when he was asked by show compere Ebuka, she however, insisted that the alleged encounter only occurred once, which she was under the influence of alcohol. The fiasco that ensued the eve of her disqualification was based on that premise.

Erica eventually apologized the next morning for her erratic actions, but that wasn’t enough to salvage her exit from the house. She became the first housemate to be disqualified from the show just three weeks to the finale.

2)Davido fires warning shots at Burna Boy on new single

Following his break from social media on June 8, Davido made his appearance on social media with the announcement of the release of his second single of the year titled ’Fem’.

Snippets and bts of the song visuals had already been dropped by some of Davido’s associates , brewing fans in anticipation of the song. The song finally dropped on the evening of Thursday 10th, with leading radio stations across the city of Lagos premiering the 3 minutes track. Well, as expected a solid tune was what Davido brought on board, but there were more talking points about the song .’FEM’ an onomatopoeia for ‘Shut up in Yoruba parlance, ‘looked like a straight-up reply/diss/threat to Afro beats act, Burna Boy. With  lyrics such as  “E be like you don dey talk too much, small talk you don dey talk talk, fem. O boy, you don dey do too much, small talk you don dey look who talk, fem…” it wasn’t hard to decipher who the reference was for.

Recall that the rift between the two parties began when Davido took to his social media page to announce his new project which he says will be out by July. He shared different snapshots of his snaps on his Instagram story which suggest a new song or album coming up soon.Few hours after Davido posted on his story about his new project coming up in the month of July, Burna Boy also took to his social media page to shade Davido. Making reference to the month July, he also posted a funny message saying July will be a funny month.

Davido upon sighting Burna Boy’s post also took a swipe at him by posting a photo of himself and Wizkid describing both as the greatest of all time in the music scene. Burna Boy who also couldn’t let sleeping dogs lie also took to his snap story to throw more shades at the “Assurance” crooner. He wrote….

”You cannot play football, everybody knows you cannot play football and you are an embarrassment to the team. But your daddy bought the football team. Both didn’t eventually drop the project at the said time , as Burna Boy dropped his album in August ,while that of Davido is still being awaited.

Industry sources cited that the cold war between both parties ensued following Burna Boy’s refusal to give Davido’s label act , Peruzii a writing credit on a track on his grammy nominated album, ‘African Giant’.

3)Mi Abaga and Vector beef settled ?

On Wednesday, September 9, 2020, Nigerian veteran  rappers, MI and Vector released the official trailer of Hennessy sponsored themed #TheConversation on their respective social media pages.

The less than 30 seconds video featured Mi abaga, vector and DjJimmy Jatt discussing Nigerian Hip-Hop and the infamous beef between MI and Vector, which has spanned for over a decade. The beef between the duo heightened up late last year as both parties quit the subtle shade game and headed for a headshot. Back and forth diss tracks and social media clapbacks were thrown at each other. Their beef garnered full attention for weeks, as social media was thrown into agog as the beef between the two veterans went full swing. Vector, a brand ambassador for Hennessey, a brand notably known for its affiliation with Hip-hop over the years might have just gotten himself a new team member, as it seems the liquor brand is attempting to document their whole beef history. This would definitely be a good one for the Nigerian hip-hop scene. Of course, social media was sent into a frenzy when the duo posted on the respective social media pages. Indeed, we’d love to see our things pans out, as the conversation kicks off on the 15th of September.
