Parts of the Central Bank of Nigeria’s office in Makurdi were engulfed in fire
A fire incident that occurred in the Makurdi branch of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Benue State, has left the bank in flames.
The fire started around 7 am on Thursday, April 21, but was quickly put off by officers of the Federal Fire Service.
While the bank is yet to acknowledge the incident, sources claimed the fire started from the building’s power section.
“The fire started from the powerhouse and the security quickly called the firefighters who came and put it off, it did not escalate to the main building,” the source said.
Confirming the incident, the Benue State Police Command said it had deployed personnel to the bank to prevent any form of looting.
The spokesperson of the command, Sewuese Anene said although the source of the fire incident was not disclosed, the primary responsibility of the police was to secure the bank against any form of breach.
The CBN office is located at the Government Reserved Area of the state adjacent to the Benue State Government House.
