The Ward C2 Councillor in Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Legislative House Hon. David Olaniyi, distributed food palliatives to no fewer than 120 members of his constituency, as part of his contribution to relieving the pains of his constituency during this Coronavirus lockdown.
Olaniyi while personally handing the palliative to beneficiaries on Saturday, said the exercise is to compliment efforts of the Lagos State and the local governments at relieving the pains of Lagosians under the Emergency Food Response initiative by providing food packages especially to the poor and vulnerable in his constituency.
He said though the items may not be able to reach all the nooks and crannies of his constituency, he is assured that the effort would make a difference in the lives of the beneficiaries.
Olaniyi said: “I feel this was one of those things we needed to do to cheer our people and assure them that they have not been forgotten by their elected representative.”
He urged all philanthropists and private organizations, NGOs and religious organizations to assist in reaching out to more people especially at this critical time by ensuring that many people, especially the very poor and the vulnerable are catered for.
According to him, “Just as all arms of government are trying to reach out to the vulnerable, every good spirited citizens are welcomed to join hands with the government to ensure that basic items reach the vulnerable segments of the society.”
The Councillor who further sensitized the people about the coronavirus said though the state and local government have embarked on massive sensitization, yet, it would never be enough to spread the awareness and the precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic.
He said the decontamination and disinfection exercise embarked upon by the local government across all the wards, is meant to ensure that all parasitic insects and bacteria and viruses lurking in our environment are killed before they cause more harm to the people.
All that the government is asking is a little bit of endurance because nowhere in the world today is there any known way of defeating this pandemic. There is no vaccine. And that connotes there are choices to be made: between continuing as usual, or accepting the restrictions even when they come with unintended pains.
