A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered that suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Abba Kyari, and six others be remanded in the custody of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) till March 14, 2022.

Kyari was arraigned on Monday morning, March 7, before Justice Emeka Nwite. He was arraigned alongside ACP Sunday Ubua, ASP Bawa James, Inspector Simon Agirigba, Inspector John Nuhu, Chibuinna Patrick Umeibe and Emeka Alphonsus Ezenwanne.

While Kyari and the other four senior police officers pleaded ‘not guilty’ to the drug trafficking-related charges levelled against them, the two civilians in the trial – Chibuinna Patrick Umeibe and Emeka Alphonsus Ezenwanne – pleaded guilty to counts five, six and seven.

Justice Emeka Nwike therefore adjourned to March 14 to hear the bail application.
